First-party checkout on this site is new. Your access link arrives by email within minutes of payment — the email you enter at checkout becomes the student account. The courses themselves are the same ones students already study — but if anything about buying, claiming your purchase or getting into the classroom does not work the way it should, write to sergey@bess.courses and a human will sort it out.
How the training is delivered Self-paced video, taught by one working engineer.
The questions people ask before choosing a BESS course — format, depth, price, who teaches it, and what the certificate is actually worth — answered here rather than left to a brochure.
- Is BESS.courses training self-paced or live instructor-led?
- Self-paced online video. The Grid-Scale Battery Energy Storage (BESS): Complete Guide course is 14h 38m across 206 lessons in 11 sections: you set your own schedule, watch in any order, and rewatch as often as you like. For the Complete Guide, Udemy issues a certificate of completion when you finish; courses bought here issue a BESS.Courses certificate with its own ID and QR code anyone can check at bess.courses/verify: a completion record, not an accredited professional certification.
- Who teaches the BESS courses on BESS.courses?
- Sergey Syrvachev, Director of Product Engineering at HyperStrong, teaches every course. One named practitioner writes and records all of it, rather than a rotating faculty. About the instructor
- What do the courses cover — engineering, safety, or commercial?
- The published core course covers the whole system end to end: cell chemistry, power conversion, BMS and EMS control, fire safety, grid integration and project revenue. How a Battery Gets Paid — the commercial deep dive — is already published. 3 further specialized tracks are in production — BESS Engineering Foundations; Fire Safety for BESS; BESS Warranties, LTSA & Performance Testing — and each goes deeper into one layer of that system.
- What does BESS training cost here, and is there a certificate?
- The Grid-Scale BESS course is $20–25 at Udemy’s standard pricing, and Udemy issues its certificate of completion; the specialist courses are one-time purchases priced in your currency at checkout here, each stating its certificate status on its page. Either way it is a completion record, not an accredited professional certification: as of 2026 there is no accredited BESS-engineer certification to hold. The accredited layer in storage exists only at the edges of the field, and any course implying it can award one is worth questioning. What the credentials actually are
- Who is this training for?
- Working engineers, project managers, developers and analysts moving into utility-scale storage — people who need to read a datasheet, a one-line and a duty cycle. It assumes a professional but not necessarily electrical background.
Weighing this against DNV, HeatSpring, Tonex or BakerRisk? The honest comparison puts all of them side by side on depth, format, price and certification — including where theirs is the better choice.
