What is the low-voltage ride-through envelope for Netherlands (TenneT)?

The plant must ride through for any voltage that stays on or above this envelope. The envelope holds 0 pu from t = 0 to 250 ms; then ramps linearly from 0 pu at 250 ms to 0.85 pu at 3 s; then 0.85 pu from 3 s onward — the last band the envelope defines, with no stated end time.

The clause states this boundary as a line; intermediate points are interpolated between its stated vertices.

Applies to Type D power park modules (RfG art. 16), ≥110 kV

Beyond ride-through

Operating requirements beyond the envelopes.

The envelopes above are what Netherlands (TenneT) demands during a disturbance. The rows below are the same regime’s operating and fault-response requirements — reactive capability, frequency response, continuous operating range, ramp rate, RoCoF withstand and fault-current injection — each researched from the document its own row cites, separately from the plotted corpus. Every row carries its clause and a verbatim quote, so you can check it the same way.

U-Q/Pmax envelope ±0,33 (PPM) Reactive capability Q/Pmax = 0,33 supply and 0,33 absorb at maximum capacity, voltage-dependent: supply 0,33 from 0,9 pu to 1,05 pu, linear taper 0,33→0,0 between 1,05 pu and 1,1 pu; absorb 0,33 from 0,95 pu to 1,1 pu, linear taper 0,0→0,33 between 0,9 pu and 0,95 pu (basis: maximumcapaciteit = Pmax) National determination of the U-Q/Pmax profile under RfG Art 20(2)(a) for type B power park modules. Binds storage explicitly: Artikel 2.9, derde lid, onderdeel a applies the NC RfG connection conditions and the corresponding parts of Hoofdstuk 3 to elektriciteitsopslageenheden 'van overeenkomstige toepassing' (mutatis mutandis); under 4° a storage unit ≥1 MW and <50 MW complies with the type B provisions (which include Artikel 3.17). For type C/D PPMs (storage ≥50 MW / ≥60 MW via 5°/6°) Artikel 3.24, eerste lid declares the same U-Q/Pmax profile; Artikel 3.28 modifies it for PPMs on transmission systems ≥300 kV. No charge/discharge asymmetry is stated — the profile is symmetric in Q (0,33 both directions) and the storage article adds no separate reactive rule. LFSM droop and thresholds (storage) Frequency response LFSM-U droop for electricity storage units is set at 2% (units >0,8 kW and <1 MW) and 1% (units ≥1 MW), in both storage (charging) and generation mode; LFSM-O: frequency threshold setting 50,2 Hz (adjustable 50,2–50,5 Hz inclusive), droop adjustable 4–12%, default setting 5% Artikel 2.9, derde lid, onderdeel g binds storage explicitly and by name: by way of derogation from the mutatis-mutandis chain of onderdeel a, the limited frequency sensitive mode – underfrequency droop (statiek) is fixed at 2%/1% by size class, in both opslagmodus and opwekkingsmodus. FSM parameters (type C/D) Frequency response FSM: droop adjustable 4–12%; dead band adjustable 0–500 mHz; frequency-response insensitivity 10 mHz; active-power range 1,5%–10% of maximum capacity; maximum permitted full-activation time t2 = 30 seconds National FSM determinations under RfG Art 15(2)(d) for type C units; type D units comply via Artikel 3.25, vierde lid. Binds storage via generation-scoped chain: Artikel 2.9(3)(a) under 5°/6° maps storage ≥50 MW to type C and ≥60 MW to type D provisions mutatis mutandis (a typical grid-scale BESS of 1–50 MW is type B, so the type-C parameter values here do not bind it directly — but see the scope note below: the RfG article 15 FSM duty still applies to it). Response measured as active-power frequency response; for a PPM, Pref = actual generated active power when the FSM threshold is reached (Artikel 3.22(3)(e)). Note on scope: Artikel 2.9(3)(a)2° requires every non-synchronously coupled storage unit to comply with RfG artikelen 13 t/m 16 and 20 t/m 22 — article 15 is FSM — irrespective of size class, so FSM is not switched off for a 1–50 MW BESS by its type-B classification. Activation criteria are measured at the terminals (aansluitklemmen) of the individual generating units: voltage deviation >10% of nominal RMS, or a step change ≥5% of peak nominal voltage; delivery is at the transfer point of the connection (tiende lid). Asymmetrical faults: veertiende lid applies the requirements to the positive and negative sequence components, with k2 adjustable 2 ≤ k2 ≤ 6 and default k2 = k — negative-sequence injection is explicitly addressed. Scope

Who does Netherlands (TenneT) bind, and since when?

Type D power park modules (RfG art. 16), ≥110 kV. No date of effect is published here — grid codes are reissued, so check the current issue before relying on it.

These figures are a reading aid, not legal advice. Grid codes are reissued: verify against the current edition before you design to them.

Curve data last checked against the code on — 66 standards, 130 envelopes, published by bess.engineer under CC BY 4.0.

Questions

Questions this page answers about Netherlands (TenneT)

Does Netherlands (TenneT) require ride-through, or only that the plant does not trip?
Ride-through. Every envelope on this page is a performance duty the plant must meet, not a protection-setting no-trip boundary — they are different obligations. That is what these curves are; they are not everything Netherlands (TenneT) contains. The requirement sentence under each chart says which side of the curve is the compliant one.
Are the numbers on this page taken from Netherlands (TenneT) itself?
Yes. Every breakpoint is read from the code, and each envelope carries the clause it came from, quoted in full under its chart — so you can check the figure against the standard rather than cite it from this page.
Which events are charted for Netherlands (TenneT)?
Netherlands (TenneT) is charted here with 1 envelope — low-voltage ride-through (LVRT). No high-voltage or frequency envelope is charted here — check Netherlands (TenneT) itself before concluding it sets none.

Ride-through, in context.

An envelope is a compliance boundary; understanding why it exists is a different question. The ride-through and grid-forming entries cover the engineering, and the Engineering Foundations course builds it from the physics up.
